Remembering the life of Egil L. Hovey...

The Memorial Service for Egil L. Hovey will be held at 1:30 P.M. on Wednesday,

February 2, 2005 at Grace Lutheran Church Albert Lea The Reverend John Henriksen will officiate. Private interment will be held in Graceland Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. - 7:00 P.M. on Tuesday at Bonnerup

Funeral Service. There will be no reviewal at the church.



Egil died on Saturday, January 29, 2005 at the Good Samaritan Center.

at the age of 87.



He was born on August 15, 1917, in Manfred, North Dakota, the son

of Ivar and Ebba Hovey. He was raised in Tioga, North Dakota and graduated

from high school there. He later graduated from Minot State College in 1939.

Egil taught in Tioga, Harlowton, Montana, Cando, ND, and in Albert Lea.

He taught social studies and counseled in Albert Lea from 1944 ? 1982. It

was following the completion of his Masters from Mankato State that

he made the transition from teaching to guidance counseling.

He married Charlotte Jahnke on June 10, 1941.



Egil had been an active member of Grace Lutheran Church since the early

1950?s. He assisted with the Hi-Y program for many years.

He was awarded a Ford Foundation fellowship at George Washington University

in Washington DC to study government from 1953-4. In 1950, he served on the state curriculum committe for social studies. He was selected to represent

Minnesota at the U.S. Commission on UNESCO in Cleveland OH in 1951.

After his retirement he enjoyed traveling around the U.S. and overseas.

Egil was a member and former president of Golden K-1 for many years and also

was a former president of Retired Educators.



Egil is survived by his wife Charlotte, son Robert W. Hovey and special

friend Thomas G. Healey of Minneapolis, daughter Kathryn Hovey-Kahlenbeck

and son-in-law Kurt C. Kahlenbeck of Minneapolis; five sisters-in-law, a brother-in-law and nieces and nephews.



He was precededed in death by his parents, Ivar and Ebba Hovey, brothers

Rolf and Carl Hovey.
