Obituary for Clarence Melvin Wittmer



The funeral service for Clarence Melvin Wittmer will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, February 23, 2004, at Concordia Lutheran, Pickerel Lake Church. The Reverend Karen Behling will officiate. Burial will be in Concordia Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-8 PM Sunday at Bonnerup Funeral Service and one hour before the service at the church.



Clarence died on Wednesday, February 18, 2004, at St. John's Lutheran Home. He was 86 years old.



Clarence was born in Freeborn County, MN on December 17, 1917, the son of Carl and Elsie (Stern) Wittmer. He attended Conger School and one year at Concordia Lutheran Church School where he had been baptized and confirmed..



On December 30, 1943, Clarence was united in marriage with Clara Bartleson at Concordia Lutheran, Pickerel Lake Church. He was an active member of Concordia Lutheran Church and had served as usher, Trustee and on the church council.



Clarence was raised south of Conger until the age of 13 when he moved with his family west of Albert Lea. Following his marriage he purchased a farm in 1947, adjoining the family farm in Pickerel Lake Township. He had served as supervisor for Pickerel Lake Township for 12 years. His life was farming but he also enjoyed fixing mechanical things. He was very proud of his grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with them.



Clarence is survived by his son, Carlton (Susan) Wittmer of rural Albert Lea, MN; five grandchildren: Corey (Ruth) Wittmer of Albert Lea, MN, Aaron (Karen) Wittmer of Lomira, WI, Bryn (Jason) Beloate of rural Albert Lea, MN, Mary and Kate Wittmer of rural, Albert Lea, MN; two great grandchildren: Kayla and Casey Wittmer of Albert Lea, MN; two sisters: Maleta Breamer and Margret Yost both of Albert Lea, MN; three sisters-in-law, Margret Fank of Forest City, Iowa, Olga (Adrian) Kaylor of Arkansas, Carrie Flesche of California; nieces and nephews.



He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Clara in 2002; daughter, Susan in 1978; two brothers: Erwin and Manfred Wittmer.
