Obituary for Arthur Truman Kopseng
The memorial service for Arthur Truman Kopseng will be held at 2:00 PM Monday, December 15, 2003, at First Lutheran Church, Albert Lea, MN. The Reverend Reggie Klindworth will officiate. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery at a later date. Friends may visit with the family one hour before the service at the church. Military honors will be accorded by the Albert Lea Veterans' Organizations. Bonnerup Funeral Service is in charge of the arrangements.
Arthur died at his home on Friday, December 12, 2003, after a brief and courageous struggle with cancer. He was 77 years old. As a special gift to science, he donated his body to the Department of Anatomy, Mayo Foundation.
Art was born December 3, 1926, to Thomas and Anna (Kloster) Kopsing in rural Lake Mills, IA. He was baptized in North Prairie Lutheran Church and confirmed at Salem Lutheran Church in Lake Mills. He attended school in Lake Mills and graduated from Lake Mills High School in 1945. He served in the U.S. Army with the 709th military police in Frankfurt, Germany from 1945-46. He later attended school at St. Olaf College in Northfield, MN where he majored in economics. He graduated in 1952.
Art was united in marriage with Dolores Ihde on June 18, 1949, at First Presbyterian Church, Albert Lea, MN. He worked as a salesman at J.C. Pennys in Owatonna, MN. Art and Dolores moved to Albert Lea in 1955. There he began his career with St. Paul Clothing House. He worked as a salesman and manager with the company until his retirement in 1992 and continued to help part time until the store's closing in 1995.
Art was a member of First Lutheran Church, American Legion, Lions, and served as President of Kiwanis K-2 and Sons of Norway. He enjoyed reading, visiting with friends and family and traveling to both coasts, Hawaii, Norway, France, and Germany. He collected autographs of famous people.
Art is survived by his wife, Dolores of Albert Lea; one daughter, Diane (Hal Sr.) Sharpe of Appling, GA; three sons: Arthur (Kathy) Kopseng of Northfield, MN, Jeff Kopseng, special friend, Alan Bloemke of Albert Lea, MN, Doug (Karen) Kopseng of Minneapolis, MN; eight grandchildren: Elizabeth Jane Kopseng, Amanda Kate Kopseng, Alison Jill Kopseng and Daniel Arthur Kopseng, Jennifer Nicole Bock, Tyler Thomas Bock, Carson Truman Sharpe and Daryon Parker; step-grandson, Hal Sharpe, JR.; half brother, Brian (Sheryl) Kopsing of Albert Lea, MN; aunts: Inga Waite of Paulsbo, WA and Ruth Fisher of Lake Mills, IA; many cousins; and special canine pal, Max.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Anna Dahlen; father, Tom Kopsing; stepfather, Melferd Dahlen; mother and father-in-law, Harriet and Lowell Ihde and aunts, uncles and cousins.
